"
Fairfield schools started this week and I’m sure the schools in the area
have either started or are about to start.
I think of the value of education in our society and the effort we
make to train up our children in such a way that they can become productive
members of our society and are able to work within the system, earning a
living, coping with trends and dealing with the pressures of decision making
and life management, etc.; but, I wonder why the same emphasis has not
necessarily been placed upon their spiritual upbringing in many homes?
Understandably, a home void of the gospel would not teach and train
up a child in God’s word, but you would think that a Christ centered home
would. Too often the children
of our families know very little about scripture and have very little
concern for the things of God. Perhaps they’re not taught to read or study God’s word as
they are other subjects; perhaps they’re not taught the value of
accomplishing God’s word as much as the value of doing well in school,
athletics, or social activities; perhaps parents have lost sight of the
greater values in life. Do we
want our children to have a good education? Absolutely!
Do we want them to excel in all they do? Absolutely! But, as
believers, we should have the same desire, if not more (for the things of
God are eternal!) for them to know and understand scripture, God’s plan
for their life, the value of Church, etc.
It is incredible to see parents who have that heart and desire for
their children. “Train up a
child in the way he should go…” While we wonder why so few are called to the mission field,
Pastor, Evangelism, etc., I wonder if perhaps we de-emphasized the
importance of God’s word and work? Just
a thought.
