What is a Name!

What is a Name!

The name Jesus conveys different things to different people. Depending on the individual, it can mean an historical figure, a good teacher, a prophet, or a curse word. Yet to many throughout the world, that name is synonymous with "Lord and Savior."

What is it about that name? Why do some respond in praise and worship while others react in profanity and anger? The answer is that Jesus isn't simply a person; He's an issue. And our response to who He is determines not only our way of life, but also our eternal destiny

The name of Jesus Christ represents all He is and all He does. Scripture identifies Him as the Son of God, equal to the Father in character and attributes: He is eternal, all-powerful, sovereign, and ever-present. The Bible also says He is the Creator and Sustainer of all things (Col. 1:16).

Jesus came to earth as the God-man for the purpose of saving mankind. Because He lived a perfect life, Christ is the only person in history who is qualified to pay the penalty for someone else's sin. He secured our forgiveness and offers us the gift of salvation on the basis of faith.

One day Christ will sit as mankind's ultimate, final judge. Those who have accepted His payment for their sins will live with Him forever.

Have you chosen to receive Christ's offer of salvation? A transformed life now and an eternal kingdom in heaven await all who call Him Savior and King. If you've never made the wise decision to accept His free gift, why not do so now? Then rejoice in the fact that Jesus will return as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Hello everyone,
I have had on my mind some people that are needing some prayer.
Art Davis- he's my father-in-law. Art was laid off from his job in November. He has been trying to find a job ever since. The in-laws live in Lexington, Ky. and he has searched as far as the Cincinnati area. Emily and I have extended our help to Art by letting him live with us during his work week. He has not had very good luck and easily gets unmotivated. Please keep Art in your prayers.
Lory Hicks- Fred and Lory Hicks are customers where I work which is at Colerain RV. They are good people. Doctors discovered that Lory has forming leaches throughout her body. Fred and Lory bought a camper so they can travel to the best hospital in the USA that can treat this issue in Texas. Fred has always said "what momma wants, momma gets". I talk to Fred about 2-3 times a month and always asks how Lory is doing. Sometimes its good news, sometimes its bad news. Please keep Lory and Fred in prayer.

That is all have right now.

Thank you very much!

People are saved when they trust Jesus Christ as Savior and choose to follow Him. Right then, most Christians realize that they will dwell with Him forever in heaven. But many don't understand what they can expect for the remainder of their lives on earth.

One benefit that's available immediately is a growing relationship with the Lord. The Father's oneness with Jesus (John 10:30) illustrates the intimacy God wants to have with His children. He had this type of closeness in mind at creation--a relationship with man is an avenue for Him to express His love and for us to worship and understand our Maker.

Another advantage is that Christ-followers are promised clear guidance through God's Holy Spirit. Decision making is a part of everyday life. It is impossible for a mere human to know every variable and nuance before choosing which path to take. But the Lord knows all things--past, present, and future. With godly wisdom available, it's hard to understand why anyone would prefer to trust his own hunches.

Provision is yet another blessing guaranteed for believers. There will be hard times, but God gives Christians everything necessary for following Him (Phil. 4:19). And His grace will always prove more than sufficient (2 Cor. 12:9).

How abundantly God gives to His children! One word of caution, though: these gifts are effective only when believers walk obediently with Him. Sin can stifle them.

The heavenly Father desires that all of His sons and daughters have these blessings; if you're living in obedience before Him, they are available to you. Is anything getting in the way of your total submission to Him?

To make a long story short...prayers are needed for Caroline's boyfriend, Tommy, and his family. His dad was in an altercation with a man Sunday night and was stabbed in the side. However, he retaliated by going to the man's house today (Mon, the 9th) and shot the man with a handgun. I don't know if it was fatal or if he's in hospital, but Tommy's family has long been involved with drugs and such for many years and they desperately need prayer. His mother is just beside herself, as they all are, and we are too...this is my grandbaby's family as well. Caroline is torn and this will be a difficult time, I'm sure, for his family. Please help us pray for them and to help us show the love that God tells us to show to those in need and especially those that are lost and do not know Him.

Thank you for your support and any suggestions other than what God tells us to do...to love and support those who need it, please let me know. There has been alot of drama with this family and ours for almost 3 years and while we know we may be "supporting sin", as Tommy has been living with us for almost a year as his mother had him escorted out by the police and he has no other family...we know all that the Bible states about living in sin, etc, but would we turn the other cheek and leave him to the streets to live the life he's trying to get out of?? It's not that we support them living together, they are adults, but they are children who need SOMEONE to love them and help guide them onto the right path...this is a heartwrenching situation all around and we as Caroline's parents are trying to do the right thing. I, in my heart, cannot put my child out on the streets and I can't fathom why Tommy's mom can live with her choice, but I don't know all the details...I just know Caroline and Lamar are first and foremost, but Tommy is family too. Caroline is saved and been baptized, she's just in a phase that we don't understand, but she's still our child, but moreso, she is God's child and she knows He loves her, no matter what!!

Thank God for all His blessings in our lives. I pray about this daily and constantly, God knows my heart and I hope I'm not disappointing Him with our living arrangements now...any advice is welcome, even the "constructive criticisms"....Satan will not win this fight!!! He's trying but we're fighting him constantly in more ways than one!!

Sorry to have "rambled" but our church family has always been here for us and praying for us, we need continued prayers that this will all be taken care of in God's time, not ours, we can support and love them though..which we do and we know our church families do as well.

Thanks again...God bless.

God Meets Our Needs

Our heavenly Father has promised to give us good gifts that will provide what we need. Let's look at what is ours in Christ.

One universal human need is for love. Through faith in Jesus, we've been adopted as the heavenly Father's beloved children. But before this could take place, God's justice had to be satisfied. You see, we were all born with a sin nature--one bent away from the Lord.

Because of the Father's great love, He sent Jesus to take our place and experience judgment for our sin. Out of deep compassion for us, Jesus willingly suffered and died so we might become part of God's family and experience His rich affection for us (John 3:16). Through our relationship with Him, this need for love is fully met.

In fact, by means of salvation, our Father also provided for two other basic needs--companionship and security. When we accept God's offer of forgiveness, the Holy Spirit comes to live within us, fulfilling Jesus' promise never to leave us (Heb. 13:5). This new relationship is also permanent. What Jesus accomplished on the cross was fully accepted by God as payment for our sin-debt. Furthermore, Christ Himself promised that no one can ever snatch us out of His hand (John 10:28). Therefore, we can rest in the knowledge that we are God's children forever. That is true security.

Our need for love, security, and companionship is satisfied in an intimate relationship with the Lord. Have you trusted Christ so you could be permanently adopted into God's family?

Using a Wrong Approach

God has promised to supply our needs, but that means in His way and time frame. There might be temptations to take a wrong approach in fulfilling those needs, so we must be careful not to push ahead of God or follow a route that leads away from Him.

Some people think their security rests in a bank account, prestige, or possessions. That mindset can lead to becoming a workaholic who sacrifices relationships for financial gain. Or it could tempt certain individuals to engage in illegal or unethical activities. In contrast, by basing our life on the security we have in Christ, we will have peace of mind and heart.

So now, even though we were all stuck in sin, helpless to redeem ourselves, we can be called God's children, "heirs according to the hope of eternal life" (Titus 3:7). Obviously, this fact has implications upon our behavior and character. No longer are we floundering through the world with no purpose and no hope. Now, the Holy Spirit has entered into our hearts and lives, and we have become "co-heirs" with Jesus, full "children of God" (Romans 8:16-17). Upon our acceptance of Christ as Lord, we have become "new creations" and our old selves have been put away. (2 Corinthians 5:17) It's crucial to understand that your newness in Christ is declared as of the moment you receive Him. You are justified today.

Knowing that God has changed His entire view of you on the basis of His grace, how do you feel about your new identity? Write your response in a journal, confessing any unbelief you may have.

Notice the order of events: first we come to Christ, and then our attitudes and actions change. Too many people delay a decision for Christ because they have a pious desire to wait until their lives are clean enough to approach God. My friend, these people are going about this backwards! God is not interested in how "clean" we can make ourselves; He knows that we can never improve our lives enough to make us worthy of Him. Instead, He desires for us to come to Him just as we are, so that He can begin to change and improve our lives from the inside out. This process is called sanctification and is completely separate from justification. Remember that our justification was completed with the sacrifice of Christ two thousand years ago, while our sanctification is the day-to-day purification of our lives under the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit.

Now that you understand you are justified in God's sight no matter how bad you mess-up, how does this change the way you come to God on a daily basis? Does it free you to be honest about your sin with Him, confessing it—knowing He doesn't take away your robe of righteousness, or declare you unworthy to sit in His presence? Respond in your journal.
Please feel free to ask any question, or comment on anything you would like to discuss. As always your feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Understanding that our justification is something outside of ourselves that God has already completed is quite freeing for the Christian. This means that we are not trapped beneath an endless list of dos and don'ts that we must meticulously maintain in order to be saved. (Galatians 3:2-5; 5:1) Our best behavior cannot and will not secure our eternity with God; only the blood of Jesus can do that.

This is certainly not a license to sin or act however we please, though! The indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit changes us from the inside; this means that as God works within us to change our attitudes, there will be a positive affect on our actions. Because we are clothed in the righteousness of Christ (Galatians 3:27), the Spirit within us will work to daily conform our actions to those of Jesus, so that we begin to develop a sincere Christ-like attitude. (Philippians 2:5-11)

As we grow in our understanding of justification and the impact that Christ's saving work has on our lives, Jesus will become more and more real to us. As such, the next natural step in our study will be to consider the full implications of the crucifixion in each of our lives

Lets begin by explore how God's gracious act has changed each of us who have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord.
We need to understand that the issue of justification is crucial to a Christian's belief system. If we have a skewed perception of this important matter, then we will be unable to adequately perceive our liberty and freedom in Christ Jesus. Justification is not simply an impressive-sounding theological word that preachers use; instead, it is the basis and foundation of everything we believe as Christians! Truly, there is no way for us to enjoy the victorious Christian life unless we understand what it means to be justified according to Scripture.
The best place to start is to simply examine what the word "justification" means. In Greek, the original language of the New Testament, the word for "justification" comes from the same root word as does the term translated "righteous." Therefore, justification and righteousness are fundamentally connected. When we say that a man is justified, we mean that he has been declared righteous in the eyes of God. He has been acquitted of his guilt and the righteousness of Jesus Christ has been placed upon him.
How can this be? We see in (Romans 3:10-18, 23) that man is deeply sinful and that no one is righteous. Yet, the doctrine of justification claims that every believer is declared righteous by God Himself.
This is only possible because of Christ's atoning sacrifice on the cross. (Romans 3:23-24) God has not ignored our sin, nor has He declared that it is irrelevant. Instead, recognizing the seriousness of sin and the fact that it separated us from His pure holiness, God judged each one of us, found us guilty, and then delivered our punishment to His Son. Christ was our substitute; He bore the punishment that we deserved. Therefore, through Him, atonement has been made for our sin and Holy God can once again look upon us without impugning His perfect righteousness.
There are three central points that we must grasp, each of which is laid out in this statement: GOD has justified us by GRACE through FAITH. The three things we can see here are the who (God), why (God's grace), and how (through faith) of justification.
This means that our justification is a gift that God freely gave because of His great love for us. There is no way that we could have earned our own standing as "righteous;" therefore, God acted to secure our justification for us. (2 Corinthians 5:21) We enter into this saving relationship with God by accepting His Son in faith, or in other words, by believing the Gospel and receiving Christ as our Savior.

Hi everyone!!! Hope all is well.

Can you suggest how new/young (not age wise) Believers should begin to study the Bible...some have said to begin with Genesis and read it through to Revelation, some have said to read one OT book and one NT book, plus a Psalm and a Proverb.

This, to me, was a bit confusing starting out to do a self Bible study in addition to Sun School and Worship services. How do we begin, and when we are in SS or Worship svcs, it gets confusing when you don't truly understand parts of the sermon or stories being taught when you've not studied them in your own personal study.

Thanks for any suggestions!!!

I had a question about women praying.....for instance, in Sunday School, or any informal gathering, is it ok for women to pray with the men present...like doing prayer requests, blessing food, that type of prayer...not teaching.

I always feel awkward when in SS when we do prayer requests and end our morning in class when the question is asked if anyone would like to pray...this has been asked in choir practices as well as prayer groups, etc....we were "taught" at our other church that women are NOT to pray in the presence of men period, out loud anyway. What does the Bible say about that? I can find where it says that the women are not to question things taught in the church until they are home with their husbands, and that the husbands teach them that at home...but I don't find anything about praying in general, out loud, in the presence of men.

Can anyone help me with that?? It's just something I've been thinking on lately!!

Thanks...
